Our Pilates Journey
Instructors
Melissa Har
Whilst training to become a professional ballerina, Pilates as a form of body conditioning was a vital part of my training program. I was coached in the Classical form of Pilates, by instructors who were from the direct lineage of Joseph Pilates. At vocational dance school, I was also coached under the Eric Franklin “Dynamic Neuro-Cognitive Imagery (DNI)™” method.
I graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor in Liberal Studies. Here, I undertook studies in Pedagogy, Kinesiology, Dance and Sociology. As part of my studies in Kinesiology, Pilates was one of the modalities for rehabilitation and functional movement, and I was introduced to both classical and contemporary methods of Pilates. Prior to graduation, I completed practice hours, with a wide rage on people in various settings from dance studios to physiotherapy clinics, and wellness centres in Sydney. Since 2008, I established the Dance Theatre Arts studio, where I continue to teach dance, and pilates to aspiring dance students. I also continue conduct pilates workshops and private lessons at various wellness centres and community events. My background in Kinesiology, enables me to to use Pilates in conjunction with other movement or rehabilitation modalities to develop effective programs for my participants to gain better movement function and quality of life.
